Financial settlement on divorce/dissolution of civil partnership
In today’s increasingly international world, many cases involve jurisdiction issues. The financial consequences of divorce are quite different in different countries.
We can help our clients determine whether England is the most advantageous jurisdiction. If a divorce in England is the answer, we aim to deal with it in as efficient and discreet a manner as possible.
The Civil Partnership Act 2004 was brought into force on 5 December 2005. It constitutes one of the most significant changes in family law in recent years. The aim of the Act is to allow couples of the same sex to form registered civil partnerships, which will give them the same financial rights as married couples. We can help with all aspects of civil partnership, including dissolution and the financial effects of dissolution.
We act for clients in a wide range of circumstances from the most amicable to the most acrimonious, helping clients decide whether their best interests are served by settling through negotiation out of court or by court proceedings.
In all cases, our primary aim is to achieve the result the client wants at the least possible cost, both emotional and financial. Our clients’ financial affairs routinely require consideration of cross-border tax issues and complex financial structures both onshore and offshore.
